How New York withholding works
State form: IT-2104.
New York's exact-calculation method: annualize your federal taxable wages, subtract the deduction allowance ($7,400 single, $7,950 married) and $1,000 per IT-2104 exemption, and apply the annual table for your status. (At very high incomes — $1,077,550 single / $2,155,350 married of net wages — Method III applies the top rate to the full amount.) New York City residents get a second, separate computation with its own $5,000/$5,500 deduction allowance and table; Yonkers residents pay a surcharge of 16.75% of their net state withholding, and Yonkers nonresidents a 0.50% earnings tax.

What this page covers — and what it doesn't
State plus New York City and Yonkers, which are built in. The state's per-period computation tables can differ from the annual exact-calculation method by a few cents (for the example below, the weekly table prints $8.01 where the annual method computes $7.99) — both are official; this calculator uses the annual method throughout.
