How Nebraska withholding works
State form: W-4N.
Nebraska annualizes wages, subtracts $2,440 per allowance, and applies annual Table 7 for your status (single including head of household, or married including surviving spouse). Circular EN adds a floor: if the computed withholding is under 1.5% of wages, it is raised to at least half of what single-with-1-allowance (or married-with-2) would withhold on the same wages.
Current parameters
| allowance value annual | 2,440 |
|---|---|
| allowance value by period | See the cited publication |
| annual table7 single incl head of household | 7 entries (see the cited publication) |
| annual table7 married incl surviving spouse | 7 entries (see the cited publication) |
| method note | Percentage method: subtract allowance value x number of allowances from period wages, then apply the table for the pay period (annual Table 7 shown). Wage bracket method also published. Minimum-withholding rule: if computed withholding is less than 1.5% of taxable wages, adjust it to at least 50% of the withholding that would apply for single with 1 allowance or married with 2 allowances. |

What this page covers — and what it doesn't
State method only; Nebraska has no local income taxes (Omaha and Lincoln wheel taxes are not income taxes).
