How Maine withholding works
State form: W-4ME.
Maine annualizes wages, subtracts $5,300 per W-4ME allowance and the withholding standard deduction ($12,850 single, phasing out between $102,250 and $177,250 of wages; $28,550 married, phasing out between $204,550 and $354,550), applies its brackets, adds the 2% surcharge on taxable income over $1,000,000 ($1,500,000 married/head of household, $750,000 married filing separately), and rounds the per-check result to whole dollars.

What this page covers — and what it doesn't
State method only; Maine has no local income taxes. Head-of-household filers are computed with the single standard deduction and brackets — Maine's withholding tables publish single and married sets only.
