How Colorado withholding works

State form: DR 0004.

Colorado withholds at a flat 4.40%: annualize your federal taxable wages, subtract the Step 2a amount ($11,000 married filing jointly or $5,500 for everyone else, unless your DR 0004 says otherwise), tax the rest, and divide by pay periods. Any extra amount on DR 0004 Line 3 is added per check.

What this page covers — and what it doesn't

State method only. Denver and a few other cities levy an occupational privilege ('head') tax of a few dollars a month — not an income percentage and not computed here.
