How Arizona withholding works

State form: A-4.

Arizona withholding is employee-elect: you choose a percentage of your Arizona taxable wages on Form A-4 (0.5% to 3.5%, or 0% in the Box 2 situation). With no A-4 on file, your employer withholds at the 2.0% default.

What this page covers — and what it doesn't

The percentage applies to wages after pre-tax deductions (your W-2 Box 1 wages). Arizona's underlying flat income tax rate is 2.5%; the A-4 percentage is your prepayment choice, settled on your return.
