How Alabama withholding works
State form: A-4.
Alabama annualizes your wages, subtracts a sliding standard deduction (smaller as wages rise), your annualized federal withholding — Alabama is one of the few states that deducts it — your personal exemption, and a per-dependent amount that steps down at higher incomes, then applies its 2%/4%/5% brackets.

What this page covers — and what it doesn't
Statewide method only; Alabama has no local income taxes for most workers (a few cities, e.g. Bessemer and Birmingham, levy occupational taxes that are not computed here).
